Trailblazer-Chan Chiew Ping Fund
The Trailblazer-Chan Chiew Ping Fund is dedicated to the memory of the late
Madam Chan Chiew Ping and her spirit of humanity and courage. Madam Chan Chiew
Ping was the late mother of Madam Ho Ching.
Madam Chan came to Singapore from Taiping, Malaysia after the Second World War.
She grew up in an era when most Asian girls did not have the privilege of a
formal education. She is remembered for her dedication and devotion to her
family, her life-long zeal for living and learning and her helpfulness to those
around her. Madam Chan learnt to speak Mandarin by listening to the news on the
radio. In her later years, she attended English, gu-zheng and cookery classes
at her local community centre until she succumbed to lung cancer in 2005 at the
age of 76.
The Chan Chiew Ping Fund offers sponsorship in these main areas:
In education, the Fund helps bright young women from Singapore and other ASEAN
countries to realise their potential by providing financial assistance for
their studies in Singapore.
In the medical field, the Fund will consider sponsorship of research, treatment
and care for lung cancer patients.
Finally, the Fund also supports needy children, as well as the elderly and
other needy.
The family of the late Madam Chan Chiew Ping is the principal sponsor of this
Fund.
