Howe Yoon Chong PSA Endowment Fund
The Howe Yoon Chong PSA Endowment Fund was set up in 2008 to honour the late Mr Howe Yoon Chong, a visionary Singaporean who made significant contributions to Singapore, including the building of Singapore’s first container terminal.
Mr Howe was the Chairman of the then Port of Singapore Authority from 1970 to 1979. Through his astute leadership, Mr Howe transformed the port and laid the foundation for PSA’s growth into the world’s largest container port it is today. Mr Howe was a simple and frugal man who was always compassionate towards the needy. To honour him, PSA has set up an endowment fund to award bond-free scholarships to Singapore citizens.
The initial endowment is $15 million, with contributions from PSA and Temasek Holdings.
The Howe Yoon Chong PSA Scholarships aim to provide Singaporean students from lower income families with financial assistance to upgrade themselves through formal qualifications and/or technical skills.
